UPDATE Greece Strike Feb 28: Public transport, taxis, trains, flights….

Workers at Athens public transport means and taxi drivers participate in the 24-hour strike called by the public sector umbrella union ADEDY to commemorate the 57 victims of the train collision tragedy in Tempi exactly a year ago.

According to the announcements, so far, workers at the Metro, the Tram and the Urban train ISAP will be on 24-hour strike, while those at buses and trolley buses will launch work stoppages.

Taxi drivers will be off the wheel for 48 hours, while a 24-hour strike has been announced also by Air Traffic Controllers.

UPDATE!!! Air traffic controllers: (court decision pending)

+++UPDATE Late on Tuesday night, a court in Athens ruled that the air traffic controllers strike was “illegal”. the Civil Aviation had appealed to justice for this reason.- If you plan to travel check with your airline or travel agent.

Buses, Trolley buses: will operate 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.

Ferries, ships: unified decision still pending – so far 3 unions have announced to join the 24-hour mobilization.

Taxis: 48-hour strike on Tuesday and Wednesday, February 27-28.

Striking workers at public transport means also demand, among others, safety systems, staff recruitment, new and modern rolling stock, improvement of all existing electronic security systems, continuous re-training of all employees.

  1. I wonder if the public transportations in other countries are on strike once in a while. I agree with their decision, but it’s so difficult for us the passengers to move in order to get to our work.
