Temperatures will rise above 30 degrees Celsius in some areas of mainland Greece starting from Sunday, March 31, when extremely warm air masses from Africa are expected to move over the country and eastern Europe. °
The unusual for the season warm wave is forecast to last from Sunday to Tuesday, March 31-April 2, 2024, the meteo service of the National Observatory of Athens announced.
Using the temperature deviation at the isobaric level of 850 hPa (about 1500 meters above sea level), a level we use to track air masses, air masses over parts of Eastern Europe are expected to be up to 17-18 degrees Celsius higher than the normal levels for the season.

As it can be seen in the graph above, where we focus on our region, we notice that on the afternoon of Monday 01/04 the air masses over Greece will be up to 15-16 degrees Celsius higher than the normal levels for the season.
It is worth stressing that surface temperatures and how high they will reach depend on many factors, such as cloud cover and wind, however on current data the temperature at the start of next week is likely to approach or even exceed 30 degrees Celsius in parts of the mainland, meteo.gr noted.

Sahara dust
the south winds will also bring particles of Sahara dust, however, the concentration is not expected to be as high as in the last couple of days.
