Flood victims in Thessaly get to pay property tax (ENFIA)

For the flood victims in Thessaly, the torture of the bureaucracy of the Greek state does not end. In addition to the energy bills in the flooded properties that remain without electricity, the closed and uninhabited houses, locals have now received also notices to pay the unified Property Tax (ENFIA).

And this despite the government promises that flooded houses will be exempted from ENFIA for three years.

According to local media trikkipress.gr even the owners of houses that have been deemed to be demolished by official inspection teams have received the property tax notices.

Local residents told the news website that when the flood-affected citizens/home owners had filled out their applications for state aid, somewhere in the application it was written that they were exempted from ENFIA, for 3 years.

Now they will have to go to the Tax Office with all their supporting documents and prove that they are flood victims with whose house have been declared in the several categories of damage.

The Independent Public Revenue authority (AADE) responded to complaints saying:

“Those citizens who did not receive an exemption from ENFIA for their properties affected by natural disasters from 1/7/2023 onward, although they meet all the legal requirements, because they did not submit an application for exemption from ENFIA on the support platform, can submit an application for exemption to the competent DOU of his tax residence, providing the required supporting documents.”

Based on the exemption applications submitted to the “Arogi” platform, AADE proceeded with a total of exemptions from ENFIA in 11,230 tax id-numbers for ownership rights on buildings and in 25,432 tax id-numbers for ownership rights on plots of land.
