5-year-old boy intubated after car hits three children, two women in downtown Athens

A 5-year-old boy has been seriously injured and remains intubated in an Athens hospital after a car hit him, his two siblings aged 10 and 8, as well as his 33-year-old mother and their 53-year-old grandmother.

The incident took place around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday in Piraeus Avenue in central Athens.

Both siblings and the two women were injured and latters with leg fractures, and no life threatening injuries. They also remain hospitalized on Thursday.
Police arrested the 26-year-old who claimed that he did not notice the group as the family suddenly jumped in front of the vehicle.
As police investigates the circumstances, the result of driver’s toxicological and alcohol tests are due.
Eyewitnesses told media that there were promises for a pedestrian bridge after the park in the area opened but nothing has been done, so far.
