Temperatures higher than the seasonal average prevail in Greece also on Monday, May 20, while they reached even 38.6 degrees Celsius in some regions a day earlier. At the same time, particles of Sahara Dust keep swirling in the sky with forecast to speak of improvement as of Thursday, May 23, 2024.

High Temperatures up to 38° C were recorded in the central and southern parts of the country on Sunday, May 19.
According to the network of automatic weather stations of the National Observatory of Athens / meteo.gr, 108 weather stations recorded maximum temperatures above 30 °C, including in Attica. Maximum temperatures above 30 °C were recorded also in parts of Epirus, Thessaly, Sterea, Peloponnese and the Dodecanese.

The highest maximum temperatures were again recorded on the island of Crete, with the highest maximum temperature recorded at Toplou Monastery at 38.6 °C, meteo.gr stressed.

According to forecast by chief meteorologist of the National Meteorological Service (EMY), Thodoris Kolydas temperatures will rise further in the central, western and southern Greece in the next two days, as a thermal ridge that exists in the west of the country is moving further east.

From Thursday onward, a gradual drop in temperature is expected and the return to normal temperatures for the season to follow.
