Tempi: Criminal indictment against 4 former ministers in Parliament

The criminal indictment related to the Tempe train accident was forwarded to the Greek Parliament by the Justice Minister on Thursday. The criminal file refers to the covering with earth the area where the fatal train collision took place in February 2023.

According to Parliament Speaker Odysseas Konstantinopoulos, the indictment concerns the arrangement of the railway accident site following allegations of obstruction.

The indictment names four former ministers and therefore the file had to be submitted to the Parliament Plenary.

  • former Health Minister Thanos Plevris
  • former Deputy Health Minister Zoe Rapti
  • former Deputy Minister of Transport Michalis Papadopoulos
  • former Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister Christos Triantopoulos.

The collision of a passenger and a freight train in Tempi in February 2023 was Greece’s deadliest rail accident, costing the lives of 57 people with scores injured.

Over one year after the accident and the investigation does not seem to have concluded yet. It is the victims’ relatives who have and keep raising their voice against any attempt of a cover up.
