Fire Service: Fire in factory involved in food poisoning was intentional

The fire in the factory involved in the school lunches contaminated with staphylococcus was an arson, investigators of the fire Service have found out.

The Arson Crime Squad officers have ruled that the fire was started on purpose, media report on Monday.

The fire in the factory in Lamia, Central Greece, broke out late on Sunday, May 19, just a few days after dozens of elementary school children and some teachers developed symptoms of food poisoning and an inspection by the Food Control Agency was due the following day.

According to daily ethnos.gr, fire service investigators have determined that the fire was started intentionally and the relevant prosecutor has already been informed of the details of the ongoing investigation.

It should be recalled that the Prosecutor of the Supreme Court has also intervened in the case, asking to investigate whether the fire was connected to the contaminated school lunches and the imminent inspection by the EFET, which was scheduled the day after the destruction of the factory.
