Greek basketball player Giannis Antetokounmpo and race walker Antigoni Ntrismpioti have been chosen as the flag bearers for Greece in the Paris Olympic Games 2024.
The selection was made by the Greek Olympic Committee.
The decision for Antetokounmpo was unanimous, while the walking champion was chosen after a vote.
Other candidates were reportedly tennis player Maria Sakkari, swimmer Evangelia Plataniotis and water polo player Margarita Pleuritou.
Priot to the meeting for its decision the Hellenic Olympic Committee contacted Olympic medalists, but both Miltos Tedoglou and Katerina Stefanidis, asked not to be designated as flag bearers in order not to change their training schedule.
Note that the name of Maria Sakkari was leaked to the press and received many negative reactions especially on social media as she is the partner of the Prime Minister’s son. Many have proposed Ntrismpioti instead.
