Greece’s National Meteorological Service EMY has issued an emergency bulletin warning of a weather deterioration with heavy rain showers and storms, locally accompanied by a high frequency of lightning and hail falls. At the same time, the intense weather phenomena have already hit the country causing flooding and damages mostly in the agriculture.
The weather deterioration is forecast to be of relative short duration, that is Monday-Tuesday, August 19-20, 2024.
Most affected areas are expected to be the western, central and northern parts of Greece.

Heavy rain and storms are forecast:
Monday, August 19
Northern Ionian Sea and islands, Epirus, western Macedonia and possibly in central Macedonia and western Thessaly.


Tuesday, August 20
Macedonia, Thrace and possibly in Thessaly.

Temperatures in Thrace, in Macedonia, in the northern parts of Epirus, and in the island regions (except in the Eastern Aegean Sea) will not exceed 34-35 °C. In the rest of the country, the temperature will reach 37-38 °C in places.
Winds on the seas will not exceed 4 Beaufort.
The rainfalls comes after a long period of drought and prolonged heat waves with over 40 degrees Celsius.


Following the bad weather front, temperature is forecast to rise again to 39-40 degrees Celsius as of Thursday, August 21, 2024,
