High temperatures and high-velocity summer winds (meltemia) forecast for the next three days raise the threat for fires in four main areas of Greece, Climate Crisis & Civil Protection Minister Vassilis Kikilias said on Thursday.
The Minister called on citizens to be cautious and refrain from outdoor actions what could lead to wildfires.
According to the Ministry’s Daily Fire Risk Map for Friday, the areas with a high risk of fire (Category 4 on a scale of 1 to 5) include the following:
- Region of Attica
- Region of Central Greece (Viotia, Evia island)
- Region of Peloponnese (Argolida, Corinth)
- Region of the North Aegean (Lesvos, Chios, Samos, Ikaria).
The summer northern winds -meltemia- are forecast tostart again tomorrow, Friday, reaching a maximum velocity of 7 Beaufort throughout the weekend.
