A Dutch tourist went missing on the island of Samos on Thursday morning after she went hiking around the Eupalinos Trench to Pythagoreio.
65-year-old Brigitte van Gennip was spending vacations on the island when she disappeared on Thursday morning.
She was staying in a hotel in Pythagoreio.
She had called a friend informing her about her plans. Yet, the friend alerted the police at about 10.30 a.m. saying that Brigitte wanted to walk around the Eupalini Trench, outside, starting and ending at the Pythagoreio.
According to samostoday.gr, the map above shows the route the missing Dutch womanit would follow. In red is the part she had walked until the moment her tracks were lost. In blue is the part of the route that he never did.
A Search And Rescue operation was launched with the participation of police, the fire brigade, eight members of the Samos Rescue Team, search and rescue dog Speedy, as well as a team operating drones.
Daughter appeals for help on social media
Malou Miedema, daughter of the 65-year-old Brigitte, has appealed for help through social networks.
In her post she wrote:
“My mother has been missing since yesterday in Samos. Her name is Brigitte and she disappeared near the Pythagorean and Eupalinus tunnel. I understand that many people have already mobilized to look for her, which is very good in this stressful time, especially since I am in Holland and trying to arrange everything I can from here. Is there anyone in this group that I can mobilize to make some copies of this poster and hang them in hotels and supermarkets? Any contribution to find my mother would be greatly appreciated. She has been missing since yesterday during her walk and had lost her phone along the way…”
Early Friday evening and the SAR operation has not located the missing Dutch tourist.
