Playgrounds in a Halkidiki municipality closed due to absence of “safety certificate”

The mayor of Sithonia Municipality in Halkidiki has shut down all eleven  playgrounds in his area because none of them have a safety certificate.

Mayor Ioannis Mallinis ordered the playgrounds closure and announced it  with a post on social media.

Signs on the playground entrances read “Playground closed due to lack of certificates.”

The playgrounds will remain closed until an expert, who will travel from Athens, inspects them.

The mayor’s move follows the killing of a 19-year-old boy due to a worn out fun park ride last week and where the local mayor has been in charge to certify the safe operation of the amusement park. The incident took place in the municipality of Kassandra next to Sithonia municipality.
