A clash between protesters and police in Syntagma Square resulted in 33 people being detained, the Greek police has said.
A small group of some 250 people calling themselves “National Constituent Assembly – Direct Democracy” gathered at Athens’ main square on Sunday despite a prohibition on gatherings for the day by the police.
Some of the protesters threw objects at riot police, who pushed up using tear gas, state broadcaster ERT reported.
Two hours later another protest organized by a group of Army Reservists was planned.
