European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced on Tuesday that the “sustainable transport and tourism” portfolio has been assigned to Greece’s European Commissioner, Apostolos Tzitzikostas.
During a press conference after a meeting with the presidents of the political groups in the European Parliament, the EU Commission President said that Apostolos Tzitzikostas will be placed in charge of sustainable transport and tourism, making him responsible for the mobility of goods and people.
She noted that there were are also essential sectors for Europe’s competitiveness and also for “our transitions for connecting people and driving local economies.”
46-year-old Apostolos Tzitzikostas is a New Democracy politician has served as governor of the region of Central Macedonia since 2013 and was formerly President of the European Committee of the Regions from 2020 until 2022.
He studied International Politics and Diplomacy at Georgetown University and worked at the office of the Chair of the United States House Committee on Foreign Affairs. Following his graduation in Public Policy and Economics at the University College of London, he returned to Greece and in 2001 he created his own company on the field of production, processing and standardization of dairy products, based on organic standards.
First time he was elected to the Greek Parliament was 2007.
PS I have no idea how he will deal with “sustainable tourism” but the fact that he will deal with the “rail network in Greece and its sustainability ” has locals burst into laughter this morning.
New EU commissioners
No commissioner for our “European Values?”
From his resume you can see he has a lot of experience with transport and tourism. NOT.
But many of these clowns have no experience in the fields they are appointed to. That’s because it is an old boys and girls club and we’e not part of it.
