Two teenagers brothers stabbed their cousin in the middle of a road in central Athens late on Monday. The victim, found by police on motorcycle in a lake of blood in Kypseli district of the Greek capital, died short time after he was transferred to a hospital..
The siblings, aged 17 and 19, had arranged an appointment with their 27-year-old cousin, who had recently came to Greece from Albania.
When he arrived at the meeting point, the brothers quarreled with him and stabbed him in the neck before they run away.
The victim was left behind laying on the pavement, while passersby and bystanders watched and also filmed the whole incident with their mobiles but apparently without informing the police, media reported.
An hour later, the two perpetrators appeared to local police station and confessed the crime. The 17-year-old reportedly told police that he inflicted the fatal wound, while the 19-year-old admitted to being an accomplice.
They reportedly told officers that the cousin had repeatedly abused them sexually when they were 4 and 6 years old respectively. When they learned that he was coming to Greece the wounds of the past revived.
On Tuesday, the Athens Prosecutor’s Office filed charges of premeditated murder. a felony, as well as illegal possession and use of a weapon, against two brothers who confessed to the fatal attack.
The two defendants are expected to appear before a juvenile investigator on upcoming Friday.
Their parents, accused of neglecting their supervision, were first detained, later released and were referred to a misdemeanor court, where they will be tried on the same day.
When the two brothers heard of the cousin coming to Greece, they told their father of their sexual abuse in the past. The father reportedly contacted the cousin who admitted the abuse claiming “it was silly things kids do.”
