Seeking for new leader, PASOK elects old leader Nikos Androulakis

In the second round of internal party elections for a new leader, socialist PASOK voted for the old leader, Nikos Androulakis.

According to official announcement from the party Androulakis received 59.9% of the votes, while his rival Haris Doukas, the Mayor of Athens, received 40.1%.

Participation in the second round was lower than in the first round last Sunday. today a total of 2,100,000 PASOK members and supporters cast their votes.

Androulakis has been PASOK leader since December 2021, but he was challenged by his own party after the European Elections, where he did not manage to overtake SYRIZA.

In a statement at the party’s headquarters late on Sunday, Androulakis call on all Greeks to unite and bring down the Mitsotakis government. “We can do it!” he shouted to a crowd of supporters who were waving PASOK flags, blew horns and chanted slogans from the 80’s and 90’s.

The usual mean Greeks ask tonight why there were four months of turmoil and tension within the party when in the end they elected the same leader.

The very mean Greeks comment that the leadership elections were aiming to finally wake up Androulakis as PASOK has good chances to be main opposition party since SYRIZA is falling apart.
