Deputy Minister of Social Cohesion and Family Katerina Papakosta, met with the President of the Athens Bar Association Dimitris Vervesos on Wednesday to discuss the provision of free legal support for women victims of gender-based violence.
The updated protocol will allow women victims of violence to continue accessing free legal services, regardless of their financial situation and without income criteria.
This renewed collaboration comes at a time when reports of domestic and gender-based violence persist, highlighting the need for a coordinated institutional response to protect and uphold women’s rights across the country.
Papakosta emphasized that the high cost of legal representation is a critical deterrent preventing women victims of violence from reporting their abuse.
The updated protocol, starting with the Athens Bar Association and extending to bar associations across Greece, will ensure the continued legal support of victims through a broad network of lawyers handling cases of gender-based and domestic violence, offering specialized legal assistance.
