An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale rattled the peninsula of Halkidiki in northern Greece a few minutes after 7 o’ clock on Sunday evening, November 3, 2024.
The epicenter was 12 km south of New Mudania seaside resort and had a focal depth of 12.9 km.
The earthquake was followed by two aftershocks of 3.8 and 4.2 on the Richer scale.
There are no immediate reports of injuries or material damages.
The earthquake was strongly felt due to its low focal depth and a friend who lives in the area told me that the house was strongly shaken.

Residents are concerned and many are outside their homes and shops.
The earthquake was felt also in Thessaloniki, some 150 km away as well in the broader area.
Halkidiki penisnula has been prone to earthquakes, with the majority of them to be occurring on Mt Athos, the Monks’ Republic, in the third leg, though.
One seismologist told media that the 5.2 R occurred on a fault unknown until now. Another one said they wouldn’t know if this was the main earthquake, while a third one said in was in the sea area and every much on the surface.
