Six metro stations in downtown Athens to close on Nov 17

Six metro stations in downtown Athens will close to public on Sunday, 17. November 2024, due to the events and march for the 51th anniversary of the Polytechnic Students’ Uprising.

According to police order, the following metro stations will close at 14:00 on Sunday:

  • Syntagma
  • Monastiraki (lines 1 and 3)
  • Evangelismos
  • Megaro Moussikis
  • Omonia (lines 1 and 2)
  • Panepistimio

Trains will pass through the stations without stopping, the police said.

The metro stations will reopen at the orders of the police, most likely when the march to the US Embassy will be over and no clashes or riots will break out. Depending on the people’s participation, the march could end early in the evening.

Authorities have imposed high security measures in the Greek capital -including to buildings of Israeli interest- and traffic regulations during the 3-day anniversary events that started today, Friday, November 15, reaching their peak on Sunday.
