Two Metro Stations in downtown Athens remain open on Nov 17

With a new decision, Greek Police said on Sunday that two metro station in downtown Athens will remain open on November 17, 2024.

Metro Stations <Monastiraki> (Line 1 and 3) and <Omonia> (Line 1 and 2)  will remain open, while the following four stations will close at 14:00 due to the march for the 51th anniversary of the Polytechnic Students’ Uprising:

  • Syntagma
  • Evangelismos
  • Megaro Moussikis
  • Panepistimio

Trains will pass through the stations without stopping, the police said.

The metro stations will reopen at the orders of the police, most likely when the march to the US Embassy will be over and no clashes or riots will break out. Depending on the people’s participation, the march could end early in the evening.

Authorities have imposed high security measures in the Greek capital -including to buildings of Israeli interest- and traffic regulations during the 3-day anniversary events that started on Friday, November 15, reaching their peak on Sunday.
