Private and public sector unions ADEDY and GSEE will launch a 24-hour strike expecting to paralyze Greece on Wednesday, November 20, 2024.
The strike is a protest against the ongoing high cost of living and the unions demand wages increases and collective bargains, more spending in health and Education and less in armament.
Teachers, hospital doctors,banking personnel, civil servants and other public services personnel have declared to join the strike.
Public transport will be heavily affected especially in the Greek capital Athens. So far, only buses and trolley buses have reportedly announced that they will operate from 9 am to 9 pm.
Announcements are expected by the workers at the Metro and the Tram.
Train workers have decided to join the strike and according to media, Proastiakos ans Hellenic Train will operate only with security personnel.
Ferries and ships will remain docked for 24 hours as the Seamen Federation PNO announced its participation to the strike already last week.
Journalists will strike a day earlier, on Tuesday, November 19.
Strikers organize a protest rally in downtown Athens at 13:00 on Wednesday.
