Almost two years after the Tempi train tragedy, the prosecutor of Greece’s Supreme Court has ordered an urgent preliminary investigation to determine why footage from CCTV cameras at Thessaloniki Railway Station where the freight train was loaded was not included in the inquiry of the train crash in Tempi on February 28, 2023.
According to media, the footage was handed over by the station’s management to the investigating judge in Larissa handling the train tragedy but it apparently went “lost” or something. It is an important evidence as so far authorities do not seem to have a clue about the freight train load that caused a huge explosion when it collided with the Intercity passenger train killing at least 57 people.
In her order, the prosecutor, who cites reports on the matter from Kathimerini and in.gr websites, demands that the preliminary investigation be completed within one month from the receipt of the order and requests to be kept informed of its progress.
Between five and seven of the victims are believed to have died in the subsequent explosion, the cause of which remains undetermined.
However, the investigating judge still does not have all the relevant material regarding the freight train’s route, particularly concerning its departure from Thessaloniki. This information is crucial to determine whether the suspicions and questions about what the freight train was actually carrying are valid, and whether the explosion resulting from the collision is connected to the materials being transported.
It all started, when the appellant investigator, immediately after the tragic accident in Tempi, asked the OSE for all the material for the course of the commercial train as well, news website liberal.gr reported.
In fact, from a company that manages these materials, videos were sent to the interrogation, which in turn the investigator sent abroad (England) and also to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations of the Greek Police to be retrieved and studied, in order to clarify the crucial issue for the case: what was loaded on the freight and if it was carrying something dangerous.
It looks as if the accompanying load documents were either false or not existent?
PS the usual mean Greeks suspect that the tape with the CCTV footage had fallen behind the small table with the TV and the video device. they also hope that results of the urgent investigation will be published, for a change.

Some “authorities” know exactly what the freight train was carrying – that is why it’s gone missing.
