Greek Police has arrested a 49-year-old philology teacher as the tenant of the storage unit in Pangrati district of Athens where weapons and explosives were found beginning of the week.
The arrestee has not a criminal record, was not known to police and it is the man who had paying the storage owner 100 euros every two months since 2008.
According to information obtained by news website newsit.gr, the man presented himself with false information to the storage owner, a retired military, as a professor who was looking for a place to store his books.
The 49-year-old man who is working as teacher in a tutoring center (frontistirio) in Athens was arrested on Thursday afternoon by the Special Violent Crimes Directorate following an arrest warrant. MEGA TV reported that he was arrested in his home in Vyronas municipality of Athens.
According to the new website, the storage unit was been visited by other people as well in regular intervals.
The cache of weapons and firearms was accidentally discovered by the storage owner on Tuesday, when the rental payments stopped a while ago and he decided to sell the unit.
According to police, the findings included 6 firearms, detonators, and 3 hand grenades.
Explosives included 7.5 kilos of ammonia dynamite, 3 kilos of gelatin dynamite, 2 kilos of TNT and 37 kilograms of ammonia nitrate.
