Greece’s National Meteorological Service EMY issued a RED ALERT weather warning of the barometric low called BORA being formed in the Ionian Sea and slowly moving eastward.

BORA which means ‘heavy shower’ in Greek will hit the country with heavy rainfalls and storms forecast to be locally strong. Stormy winds 8-9 Beaufort and locally gusty up to 10 B will prevail mostly in the Aegean Sea. Heavy snowfalls will occur in the mountainous areas of Macedonia and Epirus in northern Greece.
The bad weather front is forecast to start in the Ionian Sea on Friday night, November 29, and last until Monday, December 2, 2024.
EMY WEATHER WARNING
1. Heavy rains and storms
a. in central and eastern Macedonia and Thrace from the early morning hours of Saturday (30-11-24) until the morning hours of Monday (2-12-24).
It is noted that in central Macedonia (and mainly in the prefectures of Halkidiki, Thessaloniki, Pieria and Imathia) the phenomena from Saturday afternoon (30-11-24) until Sunday afternoon (1-12-24) will be particularly intense.
b. in the Ionian Sea, Epirus and western Central Greece from late Friday evening (29-11-24) and at intervals until early Saturday evening (30-11-24).
c. in western and southern Peloponnese on Saturday (30-11-24) from the early morning hours until the evening.
d. in Thessaly, the Sporades, the islands of the Eastern Aegean and the Dodecanese from early Saturday afternoon (30-11-24) until Monday morning (2-12-24).
e. in eastern Sterea (including Attica) and Evia from early Saturday afternoon (30-11-24) until Sunday morning (1-12-24).
f. in western Crete and the Cyclades from Saturday afternoon (30-11-24) until Sunday morning.
2. It is noted that in central and eastern Macedonia and Thrace there will be stormy east-northeasterly winds (8 to 9 Beaufort) from Saturday afternoon (30-11-24) until late Sunday afternoon (1-12-24).
3. Heavy snowfall will occur from Saturday afternoon (30-11-24) to Sunday afternoon (1-12-24) in the mountainous regions of Macedonia and Epirus.
