A 19-year-old man was arrested early Sunday morning for vandalizing “Venizelos” station of the new metro in Thessaloniki, northern Greece.
According to a police statement, officers apprehended the suspect, who had concealed his identity while spray-painting letters on the station’s walls and glass panels. Two spray paint cans were found in his possession and subsequently confiscated.
On Monday, the young man appeared before a single-member misdemeanor court in Thessaloniki. He has charged with property damage involving an asset designated for public benefit.
The trial has been postponed, and the suspect was released.
It is the first arrest related to vandalism of the Thessaloniki metro since its inauguration on November 30. On the first day of its operation, somebody had vandalized a glass panel with a marker. No arrest was made.
