Two earthquakes rattled Greek capital Athens within two hours early Wednesday evening causing concern among locals and visitors.
The earthquakes were low on the Richter scale, however due to their shallow focal depth were felt across the 4-million residents city.
One stroke with 2.6 Richer at 5:10 pm and the second one at 7:29 pm with 2.8 R.
The first had a focal depth of 5 km and the second of 6.3 km.
Epicenter of both earthquakes was in suburbs of northern Athens, Agia Paraskevi and Chalandri.
Speaking to protothema.gr, head of the National Earthquake Planning & Protection Organization, Efthymios Lekkas, stressed that there is no reason of concern. an approached shared also by other Greek seismologists.
Later, Lekkas told state broadcaster ERT that the earthquake was particularly felt because it occurred right over the urban fabric, while he did not rule out the possibility of a new tremor of the same magnitude.
Living in the south suburb of Athens, I did not feel the first one but just the second. It was a shaken left to right and of a short duration of 4 to 5 seconds.
Odd that the older cat, who was sleeping in her fluffy bed on the wooden floor close to my office desk, woke up and started cleaning herself. she was probably thinking an entertainment trip was ahead and she had to be pretty.
