The Greek Foreign Ministry described as “provocation” statement by the Prime Minister of North Macedonia in which he spoke of an “unsolved” and “extant” Macedonian issue.
In an announcement on Thursday, the Foreign Ministry in Athens said that the statements made by the Prime Minister of North Macedonia while in the United States are a provocation for Greece and an attempt to revive an issue that has been irrevocably and finally settled.
“In his statements in New Jersey, USA, the Prime Minister of North Macedonia chose to speak of an ‘unsolved’ and ‘extant’ Macedonian issue. This event constitutes a provocation for Greece, attempting to bring back to the fore an issue that has been resolved, as we know, finally and irrevocably,” the ministry said.
“Greece reminds that the further progress of bilateral relations with North Macedonia and the smooth continuation of the European course of the neighbouring country require full respect of the Prespa Agreement and, of course, abstaining from irredentist proclamations and claims against neighboring countries,” the ministry underlined.
