CORAL brings to Greece sharp temperature drop, heavy snowfalls

Greece’s National Meteorological Service EMY issued a weather warning of icy front CORAL that will bring significant temperature drop of 10 degrees Celsius and snowfalls even in low lands.

CORAL is forecast to gradually start affecting the country as of Wednesday, February 19, and last until the end of the week.

✅Gradual deterioration of the weather is predicted from Wednesday, as an intense cold wave called Coral will prevail in our country, as well as in the wider region of Southeastern Europe until next Monday.

✅Temperature drop will be gradually in the range of 8 to 10 degrees Celsius in Northern and Eastern Greece with the lowest temperatures recorded over the weekend.

✅Stormy northerly winds will prevail in the Aegean Sea of ​​intensity 7 and locally 8 Beaufort.

At the same time, there will be two disturbances that will affect with snowfall mainly the northern, central and eastern mainland as well as the Aegean islands and Crete.

Wednesday, Feb 19
a) In Macedonia, Thrace, Thessaly as well as the islands of the northeastern Aegean from -03 (minus 3) to 07 – 08 and in places in Thessaly -09 degrees Celsius.
b) In central and eastern Sterea, Evia and eastern Peloponnese from 01 to 10 to 12 and in places in eastern Peloponnese 13 degrees Celsius.

Thursday, Feb 20
a) In central Macedonia and Thessaly from -04 (minus 4) to 07 – 08 degrees Celsius.

Wednesday, Feb 19
a) In Macedonia, Thrace, Thessaly as well as the islands of the northeastern Aegean from the morning hours in the mountainous and semi-mountainous areas and gradually in areas with lower altitudes. In the northeastern mainland the phenomena will gradually weaken from the evening.
b) In central and eastern Sterea, Evia and eastern Peloponnese from the midday hours in the mountainous and semi-mountainous areas.
c) In the mountainous areas of Crete from the evening hours.

Thursday, Feb 2o
a) In central Macedonia, Thessaly, central and eastern Sterea and Evia from the morning hours in the mountainous and semi-mountainous areas and gradually in areas with lower altitudes.

Friday, Feb 21

So far, meteorologists seem to disagree on whether there will be snowfalls in Athens and Attica as well, with some claiming there will be indeed in the northern suburbs of the Greek capital and others to claim there will be no snow.
