Mitsotakis: Kiev must be part of the process; only Ukraine has the right to decide its future

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ address, via teleconference, at a summit organized by Kiev, on the occasion of the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine

Mitsotakis, in his intervention, referred to the human toll, emphasizing the pain and destruction caused. He stressed the imperative of collective efforts to bring it to an end.  Addressing Volodymyr Zelensky, he stressed that the sacrifices were not in vain and acknowledged his courage and resilience.

He stressed that Ukraine deserves a peace that respects its independence but, above all, safeguards its security. He also added that only Ukraine must decide on the acceptance or rejection of any peace formula. Mitsotakis also stressed that it must be ensured that Kiev is part of the process and only Ukraine has the right to decide on its future.

He also underlined the need for a peace agreement with security guarantees to prevent any future aggression and maintain peace.

Referring to European defense, Mitsotakis stressed that Greece spends more than 3% of its GDP on defense, and the time has come for others to do the same.
