“If you want sacrifices put your children on a train,” father of Tempi twins tells PM

““If you want Iphigenies* everyone in Parliament should have put your children on the train and build now a super-modern rail. No problem. But now there is a probelm” Nikos Plakias commented on Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis speech earlier on Wednesday during the heated debated among political party leaders.

Nikos Plakias was one of the 57 Tempi victims’ families who felt offended by the PM’s speech. In the Tempi disaster, Nikos Plakias lost his young twin daughters and a niece.

“What you did not do during your years as prime minister shows us how guilty you felt for the unjust loss of our relatives,” the grieving man added on his post on Facebook.

“I did not bring my children into the world to become Iphigenies*,” he underlined.

He underlined addressing Mitsotakis “Mr. Prime Minister, what you will do by 2027 for the railway and not what you did not do during your years as prime minister shows us how guilty you felt for the unjust loss of our relatives.”

At the same time, his brother Dimitris Plakias, who lost his young daughter and his twin nieces, also expressed his anger on Mitsotakis’ speech and the New Democracy MPs’ reaction in the Parliament.

“Once again today I felt anger and rage, seeing MPs applauding over 57 victims and a prime minister saying what he will do by 2027, but he did not tell us what they did not do in the 51 years they [ the conservative New Democracy party] have been in power,” wrote Dimitris Plakias on Facebook.

During his speech in Parliament, PM Mitsotakis reiterated that there will be a modern, safe rail route Athens-Thessaloniki by 2027.”

*In Greek mythology and in modern society, Iphigenia stands as a symbol of Sacrifice by her own family. Her father Agamemnon set to sacrifice her to goddess Artemis, who was preventing the wind from filling the sails of the Greek ships to sail to Troja.
