“Chocolate licking contest, nothing naughty,”says club on Zante

A week after a shocking video showed female British tourists performing oral sex to a couple of men in public, while the audience was filming with their mobiles, the club on Zante defended itsself claiming “it was a chocolate licking competition, nothing naughty.”.

The controversial footage uploaded on TikTok with the caption “an ordinary day in Zakynthos,” was allegedly shot in a club in the famous party resort of Laganas.

The video showed four young men, two of whom are naked from the waist up, lined up in a row in front of a wall. Four young women are seen kneeling on the ground and bending over near the men’s crotches, surrounded by dozens of people.

The contest was reported locally and on social media as an “oral sex contest.”

Locals concerned about Zakynthos image & tourism quality

The footage caused uproar in the local community with Deputy Mayor for Tourism, Angeliki Avgoustinou, to claim that the municipality has filed a complaint with the police to investigate the matter.

However, the club has reacted, claiming that the video simply showed a “chocolate licking” contest.

The club’s manager told Greek website Npress: “There was no oral sex. The contest involved licking of chocolate, in a humorous and fun context. It may look different in the video, but there was no sexual act.”

Local media reported that “questions are being raised about the kind of tourism we want to have as a country.”

“This behavior caused disgust, violated human dignity and damaged the reputation of Zakynthos as a tourist destination,” reported Greek media outlet Directus. “The absence of immediate reaction from the authorities intensified the dissatisfaction of residents and organizations, who are calling for measures to protect the public order and the image of the island,” it added.

Among the people of the Zante community, it’s no a secret what exactly happens in the clubs, the competitions and the parties.

“Every year the same things happen… all the Brits and Italians come and it turns into chaos,” one user commented  on social media.

“I worked for a season in a place a little further down. The video is quite mild compared to what really happens,” another user added.

Zakynthos, also known as Zante, is an extremely popular party island and thousands of young British tourists flock there every year, and the competition is not the first event to cause a stir on the island.

In 2008, nine British women were arrested while on holiday on the island, on charges of prostitution, after they were paid to take part in an oral sex competition. [with newsit.gr]
