The Coast Guard is conducting a Search And Rescue (SAR) operation southwest of the island of Lefkada to locate two tourists who were on Stand UP Paddle-boards (SUP) and were swept away by the waves.
According to initial information, the two women from the Netherlands sent an SOS via the 112 emergency number earlier on Thursday, around early afternoon.
Winds of up to 5 Beaufort are blowing in the southwestern area of Lefkada, hampering the SAR efforts conducting by the Coast Guard and some private boats.
During the SAR operation, it appears that two more women who were SUPing were found and were picked up by the coast guard, local media reported.
However, these two are not the ones they are looking for, because they had not notified the emergency number <112> since they did not have a mobile phone with them.
