Dozens in hospitals as wildfires are raging in Greece

Dozens of people have been evacuated by ambulances and were admitted to hospitals in the last 36 hours as wildfires are raging throughout Greece.

According to official data released early on Wednesday, dozens of  people were transferred to hospitals from the several fire fronts across the country, the majority  of them due to respiratory problems. Among the cases who needed aid are also several firefighters.

In addition, there are people who fell uncomfortable and were taken to hospitals by their own means, state broadcaster ERT reported.

Achaia, Peloponnese

Since the start of the fire on Tuesday, a total of 14 people have been transported to hospitals and health centers :

9 to the University Hospital of Patras (including one firefighter with symptoms of exhaustion, one with minor burns and six with respiratory problems).
3 to nearby Health Centers and the Municipality dormitory.
2 to the Varda General Hospital, as part of the preventive evacuation of the Kato Achaia General Hospital

Aitoloakarnania, western Greece

With the support of 4 ambulances from neighboring areas, 3 cases have been transported:

A firefighter with an upper limb injury and an elderly man with respiratory problems to the Messolonghi General Hospital.
A bedridden patient at the Aitoliko General Hospital

Preveza, western Greece

The situation in Preveza is particularly serious, where 8 ambulances are operating. A total of 30 transfers have been recorded:

7 people with respiratory problems to the Thesprotiko General Hospital.

8 to Arta General Hospital, from the Thesprotiko and Filippiada General Hospitals.

10 from Filippiada (9 bedridden and 1 firefighter with burns).

5 more from neighboring villages to the Arta General Hospital

Zante

Despite the presence of two ambulances in the area, no transfers have been recorded so far.

Chios, Eastern Aegean Sea

5 ambulances are operating in the island of Chios.

8 people with respiratory problems have been transferred, 7 to the Chios General Hospital “Skylitseio” and 1 to the Volissos General Hospital.

At the same time, 12 people (10 firefighters and 2 volunteers) received first aid on site for respiratory problems and minor burns.

Rescuers remain on high alert and on increased operational readiness to provide also first aid on the spot also on Wednesday in the fire-stricken areas.
