“Very High Fire Risk” warning for Attica & Islands, Aug 27 (MAP)

Greece’s Civil Protection has issued a warning of “very high fire risk” – risk category 4 – in five regions on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.

According to the warning, the regions are:

-Region of Attica
-Region of Central Greece (regional units of Viotia and Evia)
-Region of Crete (regional unit of Chania)
-Region of Northern Aegean (regional units of Lesvos, Chios and Ikaria)
-Region of Southern Aegean (regional unit of Karpathos)

Marked Orange: Very High Risk – Mark Yellow: High risk

The General Secretariat of Civil Protection has informed the state services involved, as well as regional and local authorities in the above areas to be on heightened alert to deal promptly with any outbreak of fire.

It has also warned the public to avoid any activities outdoors that may accidentally start a fire, such as bonfires, use of machinery that creates sparks, barbecues, handling beehives or throwing away lit cigarettes.

Citizens are urged to call <199> in case they spot a fire.
