Poll: Low flights for Mitsotakis’ ruling New Democracy

The party of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the ruling New Democracy, maintains a lead in the latest public opinion poll, however, with percentage rates lower than in the European elections that was 28.3% in July 2024.

It is the first [public opinion poll after the summer vacations.

According to a poll conducted by Interview on behalf of politic.gr, ND gathers just 21.4% in the voters’ preference. the ruling conservative party recorded a drop of 4.5 percentage points compared to the previous survey by the same company in June 2025 at 25.9%.

In terms of voting intention, the Greek political parties have gathered:

  • New Democracy 21.4%
  • PASOK (socialist) 12.2%
  • Greek Solution (nationalist) 8.4%
  • Freedom Course (left-wing) 8.3%
  • KKE (communist) 6.5%

Greeks demand tax cuts, not benefits

When asked which measure they consider most important for the country’s economic policy in the next two years, citizens answer categorically: 57% demand tax reduction. In contrast, only 16% consider strengthening social benefits and pensions a priority, while 18% choose structural reforms for investment and competitiveness.

The picture is also confirmed in the specific question about the new package of measures that the prime minister is expected to announce at the International Fair of Thessaloniki beginning of September: 41% favor tax cuts for incomes of 20,000–40,000 euros, with the other options garnering significantly lower percentages.

The Poll was conducted via an online survey following an invitation in a sample of 2,848 people nationwide in the period August 21-25, 2025.

Scenarios of new parties

With the next parliamentary elections scheduled to be held in two years, there are scenarios of new parties on the making.

One claims the return of former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras as leader of his own, new party. The ex PM remains MP with SYRIZA.

Another scenario wants the former ND Prime Minister Antonis Samaras to launch also his own party. PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis expelled ex PM  Samaras from ND in November 2024.

  1. of course the middle class want tax cuts before anyone else, they always do. It is the people on pensions and on salaries under 20,000 who need the tax cuts if there is indeed any money available for them. Given the bad state of the health service and infrastructure in greec there are more important priorities. of course the government would have much more money if it enforced fines for helmet law and traffic violations, especuia;;y in tourist areas. I have only seen 2police stops in the whole season.
