We live to see this too: a woman is sunbathing in a protected area where sea turtles Caretta-Caretta give birth and lay their eggs in the sand.
The woman was spotted in Rapaniana beach not far from Kolymbari, by Chania, on the island of Crete.

Probably thinking “Oh, what a lovely spot for an undisturbed sunbath!” the woman laid down surrounded by the low straw fences aimed to protect eggs of four-legged reptiles and not two-legged mammals.
Despite the turtles eggs under her body, she seemed to be enjoying the sun and the wind unperturbed, apparently without understanding the significance of the area where she had chosen to lie down.
She may even thought that the turtles eggs were some bigger pebbles and pushed them a bit aside?

According to local Flashnews.gr, the incident caused irritation among several bystanders, who were concerned about the possible damage to the nests. However, it is not known whether they told her to move on.
It is also not clear whether the woman deliberately ignored the markings or if it is simple ignorance and indifference.
In any case, the incident reminds us of the need for more information for visitors regarding the environmental importance of these areas and the respect we owe to the wildlife they host, the local website stressed.

Wretched ignorant person
