A tragedy unfolded in Patisia district of Athens early Wednesday evening, when a 34-year-old woman and her newborn baby were found dead in an apartment building.
Alone in the family home, the woman had given birth to a baby that had also passed away when the husband and father returned home from work.
The labor had taken place in front of the other two children of the Greek-Georgian family, aged 3 and 5.
The woman had reportedly cut the umbilical cord.
She was in advanced pregnancy, however, she was still several days ahead of her labor day.
According to information, the initial assessment of the forensic doctor, who rushed to the scene, was that the 34-year-old’s death appeared to be due to pathological causes.
A forensic examination is due in order to determine the exact causes of the woman’s and the newborn’s deaths.
