Taxi drivers in Attica on 48h strike, Trains on 24h, Sept 9-11

The Attica Taxi Drivers Union (S.A.T.A.) announced a 48-hour strike denouncing the government’s “violent attack” and “photographic regulations” that favor multinational interests.

The strike scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, September 9-10, 2025, starts at 6 a.m. on Tuesday and ends at 6 a.m. on Thursday, September 11.

The strike came in response to the recent Joint Ministerial Decision (JMD), which – according to S.A.T.A. – leads to the extinction of the self-employed professional driver, transferring the work of transportation to the “multinational cartels and digital platforms”.

S.A.T.A. demands the immediate withdrawal of the JMD, as well as measures to support the professional taxi driver against unfair competition. It also calls for solutions to the sector’s chronic problems, such as the management of bus lanes, tax burdens, and mandatory electric mobility from 1/1/2026, which – as reported – “tightens the noose” for the sector.

Trains on 24h Strike

The railway will apply the brakes on Thursday, September 11, demanding that the dismissals of three train drivers be revoked.

The Board of Directors of the Panhellenic Traction Personnel Union (PEPE) unanimously decided on Friday (Sept 5) to declare a 24-hour strike for Thursday, September 11, 2025.

The union demands that the dismissal of three train drivers should be revoked.

As the Union pointed out, the aim of the mobilization is to defend the workers, who, according to its members, were unfairly dismissed. PEPE emphasized that, despite the strike, the necessary security personnel will be made available to serve social needs.

Note that the Hellenic Train operates also the Proastiakos trains including the routes to Athens International Airport.

If you plan to travel by train or Proastiakos on September 11, please, contact the Hellenic Train.
