Sailing ban due to high winds in the Aegean Sea

Greek Authorities imposed a sailing ban from the ports of Piraeus, Rafina and Lavrio in Attica on Friday due to high winds blowing in the Aegean Sea.

The ban has been in effect from 10:00 on Friday morning, September 19, 2025. The Coast Guard will assess the situation later during the day and decide on the sailing ban accordingly.

Winds blowing in the Aegean have an intensity of 7 to 8 Beaufort, locally reaching 9 B.

Morning routs from the port of Piraeus and Rafina to the islands of Cyclades and the Dodecanese were cancelled on Friday morning. The ban is valid also from Lavrio with the exception of sailing to the island of Kea and from Rafina to Marmari on Evia.

Sailing from the port of Piraeus to the islands of the Saronic Gulf operate as normal.

According to state broadcaster ERT, the sailing ban is currently thought until 7 o’ clock on Friday evening, but its lifting or extension will be decided based on the latest weather data.
