Meteorologists in Greece forecast bitter cold and snow over New Year

Bitter cold and snow on New Year’s Eve and Day, or a “polar invasion” as Greek meteorologists describe the weather deterioration expected as of December 30, 2025.

Meteorologists forecast very low temperatures and snow even at low altitudes in the eastern and central mainland in the coming days and especially on New Year’s Eve and Day.

“A polar air mass will descend towards our region and will flood a large part of our country. It is already affecting us but it will be even more intense. On New Year’s Eve and the day it will be bitterly cold throughout the country,” meteorologist Klearchos Marousakis said at Open TV.

At the same time, rainy weather is expected also in Greek capital Athens.

The weather deterioration will set in as of tomorrow, Tuesday, when a barometric low will pass and conditions will slowly deteriorate with northern winds mainly in the western, central and eastern parts of the country.

From the height of Thessaly, central Greece,  and further south, this wave of bad weather will materialize in the phenomena with intense rainfalls and storms in maritime and coastal areas while snow will make its appearance even at low altitudes towards the central and southern mainland.

On New Year’s Eve, the wave of bad weather will be limited further south with the prefecture of Attica likely to see snow that will not create problems because it will not be significant.

New Year’s Day will bring snow on Parnitha mountain with bitter cold and frost.

Over the weekend, however, the weather is forecast to improve with good weather conditions and sunshine throughout the country.
