Authorities imposed a sailing ban for ferries and ships from the ports of Piraeus, Rafina and Lavrio as well as other Greek ports on Thursday morning, January 8, 2026, due to powerful southern winds blowing with intensity of 8 to 9 Beaufort in the Aegean and the Ionian Sea.
According to the port authority and the Greek Coast Guard, only ship routes to the island group of the Dodecanese are operating from the port of Piraeus, while all other routes to other island regions have been temporarily suspended.
For the Saronic Gulf, the routes are not operating until further notice.
The situation is similar in the port of Rafina, from where the routes to the Cyclades islands will not operate.
A sailing ban from the port of Lavrio remains in effect.
The ferry lines Faneromeni Salamis-Megara, Nea Stira-Agia Marina, Keramoti-Thassos, Corfu-Igoumenitsa, Rio-Antirrio and Kyllini-Zante also remain closed.
Passengers who are going to travel by sea today should contact local port authorities and travel agents and shipping companies before their departure.

Great day to fly a kite!
I’d be flown away together with the kite.
