A woman was injured in the head and neck when a significant portion of the store ceiling in a shopping mall collapsed on Saturday afternoon.
The 45-year-old woman was injured in the head and neck and was transferred to a hospital in Thessaloniki. According to state broadcaster ERT, the woman remains hospitalized on Sunday, however, her life is not in danger.
The prosecutor ordered the Greek Police to immediately begin a preliminary investigation and take witness statements, as well as to collect preliminary investigation material, since the area has closed circuit television.
The police are filing a case for bodily harm due to negligence.
The managing company LAMDA MALLS said in a statement that “a partial detachment of part of the suspended ceiling of the restaurant “TO CHRYSO”, which is located within the food court of the Mediterranean Cosmos shopping center (in Thessaloniki), occurred.”
The operation of the store was immediately suspended and the shopping center is proceeding with all the required checks and is fully cooperating with the competent authorities to investigate the causes of the incident,” the statement added.
