Dozens calls to the Fire Service for Aid
In the Attica Region today, January 21, 2026 and as of 07:30 p.m., the Fire Department Operations Center received 370 calls and so far the following operations have been carried out:
210 water pumping,
49 tree felling,
68 people transported to safe places and
30 object removals
Power outages
Power outages have occurred in around 20 suburbs and districts of Athens as well as in Rafina and Nea Makri in south-eastern Attica.
Crews of the electricity distribution network DEDHE are trying to fix the problems.
The intense weather phenomena are forecast to weaken in the early morning hours of tomorrow, Thursday, January 22, 2026.
Schools of primary and secondary education will be open on Thursday.
PS And it came as expected since Greece started to send SOS messages to citizens per mobile urging them to stay at home when a disaster occurs. Authorities switch to automatic pilot expecting that people do not go to work. No maintenance whatsoever, no municipality crleans and unblocks sewage drainers. It needs a bit of rain, torrential or not to have flash floods.
Is it just coincidence that the same main avenues especially in the south suburbs and Piraeus Avenue get flooded? Certainly not.
