A 24-hour nationwide strike in the tourism and food service sector on February 25, as well as a rally at 11:00 a.m. outside the Ministry of Labour, was unanimously decided by the Panhellenic Federation of Food and Tourism Workers (POEET).
According to an announcement on Monday the demands are as follows:
– Eligibility for unemployment benefits for seasonal workers, without terms and conditions, at 80%, as also applies to the regular unemployment benefit.
– Restoration of the lump-sum retirement payment after 20 years of service, as had been in force for decades before the Katseli/Katrougalos law.
– Signing of a new Collective Labour Agreement in food service with pay increases and a five-day, 40-hour workweek, and, in case of work on the 6th day, a pay increase (premium) as provided by law and as applies to other sectors of the Greek economy.
-Inspection mechanisms capable of ensuring fair pay and working conditions, as well as workers’ health and safety.
