Market control authorities in Greece imposed fines totaling 1.05 million euros to three supermarkets and two companies for profiteering.
The fines concern exceeding the permitted gross profit margin in a total of 65 product codes.
The Independent Market Control and Consumer Protection Authority imposed fines totaling 1.05 million euros on five companies for exceeding the ceiling on the gross profit margin, according to article 54 of Law 5045/2023.
The fines concern:
- LIDL HELLAS & CO. OE €670,925 (26 codes, audit May–June 2025)
- NESTLE HELLAS S.A. €144,700 (4 codes, October–November 2023)
- ALPHA BETA VASSILOPOULOS S.A. €109,900 (22 codes, May–June 2025)
- MARKET IN S.A. €72,370 (12 codes, May–June 2025)
- FLORA FOOD GREECE E.P.E. €52,870 (1 code, October–December 2023)
The inspections covered a total of 3,168 product codes and violations were identified in 65 codes.
The comparisons were made in relation to the corresponding level before 31/12/2021 and the audits concerned periods from 2023 to 2025.
The decisions to impose the fines were signed on February 6, 2026 by the administrator following a recommendation by DIMEA. [source: rosa.gr]
