More than 1,200 people fined for not wearing helmets on motorbikes, e-scooters

Traffic police have stopped a total 16,047 motorbikes and e-scooters all over Greece last week and fined more than 1,240 people for not wearing crash helmets, police said Monday.

A police statement said 939 people fined were motorbike drivers – including 52 delivery riders – 113 were passengers and 194 were riding e-scooters.

Most of the fines – 641 – were imposed in the Greater Athens region, and 119 in the southern Aegean Sea islands. It was the 32nd week of a major crackdown on people riding without crash helmets, and follows the adoption of stricter rules for a variety of driving offenses.

Motorcycle drivers or passengers caught without a helmet face a €350 fine for the first offense, while e-scooter riders are fined €30.
