The General Secretariat for Civil Protection has placed the regional unit of Evros in north-eastern Greece on “ Red Code” alert from Wednesday until Monday due to a high risk of flooding in the area as a result of the Evros River rising so that it overflows its banks.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection:
“ The General Secretariat for Civil Protection has placed the Evros Regional Unit of the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace on a ‘Red Code’ alert from Wednesday, February 18, 2026, until Monday, February 23, 2026. According to the regional governor and a related assessment by the Risk Evaluation Committee, there is a high risk of flooding in the area due to the rise and overflowing of the Evros River.”
