“Greece expresses its deep concern over the fact that the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem was prevented on Sunday from entering the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem to celebrate the Catholic Palm Sunday service,” the Foreign Ministry said in a post on X on Monday.
“Despite the current circumstances, the status quo of the Holy Sepulchre must be fully respected by all and in good faith. This assumes additional importance in view of the upcoming Easter celebrations,” the statement added.
“Greece expresses its solidarity and unwavering support to the Christian Churches in Jerusalem and reiterates the importance of respect for the Status Quo of the Holy Sepulchre under all circumstances,” the statement concluded.
Despite the current circumstances, the Status Quo of the Holy Sepulcher must be fully respected by all and in good faith. This assumes additional importance in view of the upcoming Easter celebrations.

Greece is particularly concerned about the issue ahead of the Greek Orthodox Easter on April 12 and the transport of the highly symbolical Holy Fire on Good Saturday.

The Foreign Ministry is in intensive contact with Israeli authorities over the issue, while a decision is reportedly expected to be taken on Wednesday, April 1, 2026.
