Temperatures sharply decreased down to even 13 degrees Celsius in several parts of Greece and snow fell on May 1, 2026, marking one of the coldest May Day in decades in the country.


Snow fell on the mountains and many used the holiday for skiing and snowball wars.

Snow on Olympus Mt – satellite picture
Rainfalls, local storms and strong north winds added to the winter scenery that resembled more November than the last month of spring.
Mostly affected were – and still are today, Saturday, May 2 – Macedonia, Thrace, Epirus and the North Aegean, with the cold weather front to have expanded further south in Thessaly, Sporades, Central Greece and Northern Evia.
Northerly winds are blowing with intensity 6-7 Beaufort (wind gusts up to 80-90 km/h). The strengthened northerly winds will persist on the weekend May 2-3 while their intensity increase to 7-8 Beaufort.
Meteorologists forecast temperatures to rise by Monday, May 4, and some claim that could reach even 30 degrees Celsius in some parts of the country.
