A letter containing serious threats against the president of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades, and the governor of Central Bank, Panicos Dimitriades, was mailed to local daily Politis. The letter, dated March 20th 2013, launches threats against their lives but also against members of their families, grandchildren included. In focus is the haircut of deposits at Cyprus Popular Bank and Bank of Cyprus.
The letter, which is typed, is addressed “To the President and Governor Central Bank” and dated March 20, 2013.
Among others, the writer states:
“We warn you and we do not bluff.
We will start from your grandchildren, then we’ll go over to your children and we’ll let you for the end so you will feel the pain as we much as we do.”
“If you will not stop immediately the deposits haircut, the price you will pay will be very big.”
Signature “Team Save the Deposits Team – Sworn to death.”
“The letter shows that the writer has a good command of the Greek language, as both spelling and syntax demonstrate a person with elementary education,” Politis notes.
The newspaper handed the letter over to authorities for investigation.
